Grave stones in Durham

I am unable to walk past a grave yard or an open church door with out inviting myself in and really checking it out and I always leave happy. I stumbled across a church in Durham with a ecologically managed graveyard and it was a revelation. I have been way to used to the Victorian organised cemetery. This was a space that had been evolving since the church was built and it’s loved and care for. It has had no new graves for a hundred years at least so it has no plastic flowers or green granite chips. It had no litter problems or uncared pathways, all the graves were upright and not pushed over.

Religion is the only game in town in Durham and the cathedral is part of a massive complex of buildings that dominate the town, this little church is the oposite side of the river and it’s been quietly going about it’s business effortlessly.
